One of the first signs of spring, the Oxalis (Oxalis is the largest genus in the wood sorrel family Oxalidaceae) comes up with its flowery show and heart shaped trefoil leaves. These familiar sorrel family members, with more than 800 species, can be found around the world.
I have wonderful memories of these lovely plants spread across my own personal history and from every location where I have lived.

After the Rains

Nasturtium – Black, White, Shades of yellow…

This is the last in the series of photos taken over a 12 hour period today of an Iceland Poppy breaking forth from its sepals into fullblown beauty. By 5:00PM, the rains had come – so I took one more shot of this beauty before the weather had a chance to rip its petals from it. To see the whole progression please click here.

The Fig IS the Flower

Flowering Plum March 26, 2008

Today’s Fig photo shows the continuing unfolding of leaves on the fig tree outside my front door. As you can tell from the fig photographs, fig trees push forth leaves and figs at varying rates.

Today’s flower photograph is a shot of the same Iceland Poppy plant I shot yesterday. Todays photo is the sex organs of the poppy after the five petals on the blossom blew off in the wind.
Today, I took many photos of flowers while I walked up to Piedmont Avenue to see the Chiropractor. But when all was said and done – the one that most resonated with me was the Iceland Poppy Flower “in bud” shown below.
The Fig Tree Leafing Out photo is todays shot from my porch.

Fig Tree Leafing Out – March 24, 2008
Today in the United States, we are celebrating Easter. If you are a Christian, today is the most important day in the year for you. If you are not a Christian, in all likelihood you are hanging out with family and friends for a meal and entertainment that involves egg hunting, colorful baskets, and lots of candy; or perhaps you spent the day out taking advantage of “Easter Weekend Sales.” However you spent the day, I hope that it was filled with friends, fellowship, and good food. I spent a portion of my day taking pictures of “flowers and figs” as I do every day. Below are two images from today’s shoot. I hope you like them!
